As an example of this commitment, SILICIUS focuses on caring for the environment through the Project ‘Active for a sustainable future’, an initiative with which the company has launched an ambitious collaborative reforestation program focused on contributing to the implementation of new green areas in different parts of the Spanish geography.
This reforestation program also aims to strengthen the collaborative spirit between the different actors and interest groups related to the business activity of SILICIUS within the framework of a participatory and educational project that lays the foundations for a more sustainable future.
WE PLANTED 1,500 TREES
In December 2022 we planted a total of 1,500 trees in the Natural Park of Los Alcornocales (Cádiz), a protected area that constitutes the largest forest mass of this species in the world.
The plantation was attended by more than 300 students from different educational centres, who also attended the environmental awareness workshops that were held, focused on the environmental benefits of trees and forests, which ensure a more sustainable future.
THE POWER OF ACTION
As a leading company in the real estate sector, SILICIUS must exert a positive influence on cities both today and in the future. A power of action that goes beyond asset management, creating positive impacts on the environment.
Currently, the company is redirecting efforts to improve the energy efficiency of its asset portfolio, as well as in the use of renewable energies and in the reduction of greenhouse gases, but it is also possible to set the sight on regeneration and urban renewal by adding value to society with green public spaces, providing health and generating impacts that will serve as a boost for the environmental development of the regions.
The coming years will be decisive for the real estate sector as a key player in all policies related to climate change and energy efficiency, and SILICIUS has proposed to be an active part of this change as positive as necessary.
COMMITTED TO CHILDHOOD THROUGH RUGBY
Within this commitment to the environment and people, SILICIUS is also committed as a priority to the protection and support of children and their training.
In this sense, during the last years, SILICIUS has developed this objective through the economic support to different schools of rugby clubs where a formative work of great value is carried out with the little ones. Schools promote values such as respect, humility, effort, integrity and passion, that so much characterize rugby and that we incorporate as our own in our business activity. Through this sponsorship, SILICIUS participates in the different solidarity actions that the clubs develop.

The 2030 Agenda forms a new global development paradigm on which we rely to build a scenario of prosperity and inclusive and sustainable growth. It is the product of a global consensus and incorporates five areas of critical importance: people, planet, prosperity. peace and partnerships, and interconnects the 3 basic pillars of sustainability: social, economic and environmental.
From SILICIUS, we are committed to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in our business activity getting involved in the environment in which we operate through collaborations and alliances with different sectors to multiply the scope of our actions.
For this reason, we have developed the program SILICIUS’ 12 causes in which we commit, support and respond or give visibility to different social realities.
GET TO KNOW OUR INITIATIVES
JANUARY AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
During the last three years we have driven the reduction of water consumption of 53% in Bahía Plaza (Cádiz), the reduction of 42% of waste in La Fira (Reus) and the reduction of 9% of energy consumption in Thader (Murcia).
These actions are part of SILICIUS’ CSR strategic plan, which seeks to make its business success sustainable and generate a positive impact on the environment where it operates, promoting responsible energy consumption and management.
With this plan, the company reaffirms its commitment to the environment, society and corporate governance, working to generate impacts that serve as a boost for the environmental development of the regions.

FEBRUARY AND ANIMAL CARE
In February, SILICIUS committed to animal welfare by holding an awareness day in its shopping centres in which protectors and associations participated. Activities aimed at promoting responsible shelter and adoption were included, as well as to promote the coexistence of animals and people in the commercial environment.
These actions were developed in the shopping centres La Fira (Reus), Bahía Plaza (Cádiz) and Thader (Murcia) and started with a long-term commitment focused on defining protocols that seek animal welfare and coexistence in all SILICIUS Shopping Centres.

MARCH, WE WORK FOR INCLUSION
The cause of the month of March revolved around World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, a date that aims to generate greater public awareness about functional diversity.
To commemorate this date, from SILICIUS we try to make visible, through various actions, this reality. The Thader Shopping Center, together with the Association for People with Down Syndrome prepared several awareness workshops and activities to raise awareness of the labor insertion of people with functional diversity and volunteering.

APRIL AND THE IMPULSE TO CULTURE
On the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the Book, at SILICIUS, during the month of April, we decided to promote culture and education in all its facets with different initiatives.
Our shopping centres became cultural spaces in which reading and art occupied the central focus through literary contests under the theme “Stories against bullying”, book exchanges, artistic exhibitions to give visibility to the reality of health mental health and other awareness workshops.
In addition, our Velázquez, 123 and Square Garden assets hosted a campaign to collect children’s stories and books to donate to the San Simón de Rojas
Brotherhood Association.

IN MAY SILICIUS FOMENT SPORTS
At SILICIUS we believe that sport and all the values that its practice promulgates are the best scenarios for building the future. Through our business activity we want to be ambassadors of these values through different initiatives that we have promoted specially during the month of June.
We accompany the rugby schools that we have sponsored in recent years in the final stretch of the season, supporting the great training work with the kids that they develop.
We have also welcomed initiatives to promote sport in our shopping centres, especially among the little ones. At THADER we celebrated the first edition of the Children’s Race to promote sports practice from an early age, with the participation of 174 children.

JUNE AND AWARENESS FOR BLOOD DONATION
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, we join in the celebrations of this day to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood and to acknowledge donors from around the world.
Throughout the month of June, several mobile blood donation units visited us at our Velázquez headquarters and in our shopping centres. These efforts were supported by the solidarity of our teams and dozens of citizens who wanted to join in and contribute to this cause that saves lives and sustains the daily operation of the hospital system. Nearly 300 donations were carried out. Many thanks to all those who collaborated and made it possible!

JULY AND COMPANIONSHIP FOR THE ELDERLY
In a world that is constantly evolving and changing, it is essential not to lose sight of our roots and the wisdom accumulated over time. Mindful of this, during the month of June, we aimed to promote companionship for the elderly and revitalize the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, understanding that this relationship is not only significant on a personal level but also crucial for the social fabric as a whole.
Companionship for the elderly is crucial to preserve their emotional and mental well-being, reduce the sense of loneliness they often experience, and maintain a sense of connection with society. Intergenerational interaction not only enriches their lives with shared experiences but also fosters a more inclusive and compassionate society.
Our shopping centres developed various initiatives to promote this coexistence, encompassing diverse experiences to encourage mutual companionship and learning. These initiatives ranged from creative workshops using recycled materials, where children and grandparents collaborated to create unique and meaningful objects, to exciting shared cooking sessions, where the seniors shared their culinary knowledge with the younger generations.

IN AUGUST, WE HELPED CHILDREN
Child Aid was our leitmotiv during the month of August. The SILICIUS shopping centres hosted various workshops and initiatives to create an educational, fun, and, above all, supportive environment for children.
Each of these workshops was based on different objectives such as learning through play and exploration, promoting creativity for children to express themselves artistically, or fostering cultural and emotional connections.
We have also conducted a solidarity collection to assist socially disadvantaged families with back-to-school needs.
