Madrid, 3 July 2025 – SILICIUS Real Estate, a SOCIMI specialized in the long-term management of real estate assets with stable rents, has published its second Sustainability Report, corresponding to fiscal year 2024. The company continues to make progress on its 2024–2025 Strategic Sustainability Plan, achieving over 20 key milestones in environmental, social, and governance areas.
With this report, SILICIUS moves firmly towards a more conscious real estate model, placing sustainability at the core of all strategic decisions. Guided by principles of strength, transparency and responsibility, the SOCIMI reinforces its long-term value creation approach increasingly aligned with ESG standards.
In the environmental sphere, the company has strengthened its carbon footprint measurement across its portfolio and has developed a specific action plan for its reduction, following leading international standards. This plan outlines a clear roadmap to improve energy efficiency and reinforce SILICIUS’ positioning through more responsible and efficient asset management.
Also on the environmental front, 100% of the energy contracted for the common areas of its assets now comes from renewable sources. In addition, the company continues to enhance and certify its portfolio under international standards, with 46% of the portfolio BREEAM certified, including 93% of its shopping centers. Notable achievements in 2024 include the renewal or new certification of assets such as Thader Shopping Center, Bahía Plaza Shopping Center, and Square Garden. SILICIUS has also inaugurated its first ultra-fast EV charging station at Thader and expanded the electric charging infrastructure across its parking facilities.
On the social side, more than 150 actions were carried out through the “12 Causas Silicius” program, covering reforestation, environmental education, blood donation drives, inclusive sports initiatives, health awareness, cultural engagement and educational activities. Highlights include the planting of 1,500 trees in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park (Cádiz), a blood donation campaign at Thader with more than 270 participants, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Reus to raise awareness about men’s health, and a solidarity street handball event at Bahía Plaza to support the fight against breast cancer.
In terms of governance, SILICIUS has strengthened its structure with the reappointment of nearly all members of its Board of Directors and the adoption of key policies aimed at ensuring a safe, fair, and transparent work environment. In 2024, the company implemented the UNE 19601 criminal compliance standard, developed a new process map, and optimized its risk analysis methodology, thereby consolidating a compliance culture equipped to responsibly manage current and future challenges.
According to Juan Antonio Gutiérrez, CEO of SILICIUS:
“2024 was a decisive year for SILICIUS in which we acted with determination and a clear sense of direction. We’ve turned into action what we’ve long advocated with words: that it is possible to grow without losing purpose, and to move forward without compromising our principles. Sustainability, transparency and operational efficiency are not just aspirations, but the foundation on which we are building the future of the company.”
In 2024, SILICIUS received three accolades from the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA):
- Gold award in the Best Practices Recommendations (BPR) category
- ‘Most Improved Award’ for outstanding progress in financial reporting against BPR guidelines
