• The certificate, a global benchmark, reinforces the company’s commitment to the environment and people
  • La Fira is the second SILICIUS asset with this recognition after the company’s headquarters, in Velázquez, 123 (Madrid)

Madrid, March 11, 2021. SILICIUS Real Estate, SOCIMI (Spanish REIT) specialized in the management of long-term properties with stable income, continues to advance its commitment to environmental sustainability. The Company has obtained the Breeam® certificate for its La Fira Shopping Centre (Reus, Tarragona). The organizers have given it to them with the highest rating.

Obtaining this certification, worldwide reference, supposes the recognition of the management that SILICIUS has carried out in its assets and in particular in La Fira Shopping Centre, from a point of view of environmental sustainability and the reduction of operating expenses. This highlights the company’s commitment to the environment and people.

This is the second year that La Fira obtains this recognition, after receiving it for the first time in 2017. Among other issues, the organization has taken into account the actions, works and changes that have been introduced in the facilities of the Shopping Centre, and that have meant an improvement of its environmental sustainability, organizational efficiency, increasing its market value and registering a greater staff involvement in environmental actions.

This international certificate has been fully adapted to the language, regulations and constructive practice of Spain since 2010. Its name stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology and is granted as a result of a consensual verification process, requirement by requirement, which has the participation of more than 200 experts and is constantly updated.

Thus, these experts carry out a pre-analysis work, which is completed after the certificate is granted with the follow-up of independent technicians and advisors, who audit the spaces. A task consisting of the assessment of impacts in 10 categories: Management, Health and Welfare, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Ecological land use, Pollution and Innovation.

Obtaining this certificate by La Fira allows SILICIUS to add its second asset with this distinction. The other is the company’s own headquarters, located at 123 Velazquez Street in Madrid.
