    management of its asset portfolio
  • This international certificate attests that a building has the least possible impact on the environment and promotes the importance of constructing in a sustainable and efficient manner

Madrid, December 1, 2023. SILICIUS Real Estate, a SOCIMI specialized in the management of long-term properties with stable incomes, has solidified its commitment to environmental aspects in ESG matters this year by successfully executing its building certification plan for 2023. An effort that has resulted in four of its assets renewing or obtaining the BREEAM® ES In Use certificate.

In its pursuit of improving the efficiency of building management, the company has renewed this certification at the corporate headquarters of the SOCIMI in Madrid (Velázquez, 121) and at the La Fira shopping centre (Tarragona). Additionally, it has achieved the same certification for the General Dávila building (Santander) and the Obenque building (Madrid), currently in the process of commercialization.

To obtain these certifications, SILICIUS had to make improvements to these properties, such as installing smart water meters with pulses for flow control and instant leak detection, conducting studies and technical reports on natural lighting, natural risks, and flooding, replacing lighting areas with LED lighting, and introducing improvements in low-consumption faucets for showers and sinks, among other actions.

The goal of BREEAM®, an acronym for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology, is to demonstrate that constructions have the least possible impact on the environment, indirectly promoting social awareness of the importance of building sustainably and efficiently.
This globally recognized certificate has been fully adapted to the language, regulations, and construction practices of Spain since 2010 and is awarded as a result of a consensus-based verification process, requirement by requirement, involving over 200 experts and constantly updated. The experts’ work involves evaluating buildings in 10 categories: Management, Health and Well-being, Energy, Transportation, Water, Materials, Waste, Ecological Land Use, Pollution, and Innovation.

This recognition reaffirms SILICIUS’s commitment to environmental sustainability and environmentally friendly buildings. Economically viable assets, healthy and comfortable for living and working, where a lower consumption of materials is guaranteed, and quantifiable parameters of their environmental impact or urban development are established throughout their life cycle.

Currently, SILICIUS has five assets with this certification in force: the four mentioned above plus the Thader shopping centre (Murcia). Looking ahead to 2024, the company is working to obtain this same certification for more assets.
